Reflexology and the Meridian Connection

Photos of Reflexology Techniques

Traditional reflexology is based on what is called the Zone Theory. The body and feet are divided into ten zones and it is generally believed that congestion follows these zones. In the Palms Reflexology utilizes a combination of this theory and that of the Chinese Meridians.

A meridian is one channel of the energy network in the body. Each meridian is a component of a delicate balance of the five elements of Chinese Medicine philosophy - Fire, Earth, Metal, Water and Wood. There are twelve meridians in total, and the six primary ones run through the feet. When these channels become congested, physical and emotional dis-ease may manifest, providing the practitioner with evidence as to where the imbalance originates. The ability to read these indicators on the face, hands and feet is a valuable analytic tool that enables the reflexologist to have a more comprehensive understanding of the disease pathway.

The combination of meridian therapy and traditional reflexology techniques work synergistically to bring the body into balance and harmony. A broad knowledge base of each of these practices enables the reflexologist to piece together the puzzle that is each unique individual. The result is a session that is as unique as each person and far more effective than reflexology on its own.
